Please help light up the town

As daylight hours shorten and sunshine dwindles, our moods can suffer. Festive lights, however, have a wonderfully positive impact.

A few years ago, funding for Oban’s Christmas lights was cut. Thankfully, the Oban Festive Lights Group stepped in, upgrading and refurbishing the existing lights to dazzle once more. But that was just the beginning.

In these challenging times, with increasing isolation and the rising cost of living, we need joy and community spirit more than ever. It's crucial that our town's lights shine brighter and better than before.

Although the group now own most of the festive lighting, thanks to tremendous community support, the running costs for repairs, storage, and transportation are ever increasing. We need your help to keep Oban lit up this Christmas!

The group relies on donations to fund their efforts. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

Making a donation is easy: click the GoFundMe link, visit the BID office at 43 Stevenson St, Oban PA34 5NA, or drop some coins in collection tins around town. The group also runs fundraising nights and events on throughout the year, watch Facebook for the next fun night out!

Station Square is always beautiful at Christmas
‘I would just like to say and hopefully you will agree the town lights were excellent last year. They just didn’t magically appear. A lot of people made them possible, many giving of their time. I cant wait till this Christmas when the town’s lights will return to brighten the dark mid winter.’

‘It goes without saying that when the Christmas lights go on in Oban it brings the town alive and creates an atmosphere of anticipation and excitement for the festive season. With many locals and visitors coming into town the lights bring brightness to the dark winter nights. It is also important to remember the social impact the lights have on mental health. At a time when many are worrying its great to walk round the town and admire some of the great displays. It’s not an easy task finding the funds for the lights, but they are essential for everyone’s wellbeing’
